October is just a few weeks away and that means we’ve got a massive load of undead goodness just waiting to be enjoyed. And this week, we’re giving everyone the choice of how they would like to deal with zombies. First, you can watch them like we’ve always had since the days of Romero’s first film. Next, you can simulate being in control of them in an awesome new free app. Or, lastly, you actually get off the couch and deal with them in person (you’ll have to trek over to Bellflower, California, but it will be worth it)!
Here’s a peek of what’s below the jump:
Walking Dead Season 4 is coming out on October 13. With last season’s cliffhanger taking a totally different direction from the comics (which are also awesome), it’s going to be hard to predict what new sort of trouble Rick and the rest of the survivors will be getting into. But one thing is for certain: who everyone’s favorite character is.
Toge’s Infectonator Hotchase is finally out on the Apple iOS. This is the first of the several zombie-themed app games that we have been waiting for and it certainly does not disappoint.
Haunted Hollywood Sports tickets are available! If you missed out on last year’s events, then you better not miss this one now. They’re also adding in new features like the Venom (which adds the additional thrill of surviving against traps aside from dealing with the undead) in addition to the already impressive Zombie Killhouse.
Walking Dead Season 4: Daryl is Stealing the Show, and We Love It
There are absolutely no doubts about it, TV-exclusive character Daryl is basically the second star of the show. For fans of the Walking Dead before it was ever on TV, Daryl Dixon has been a complete stranger from the very beginning. But despite that, he quickly became one of the fan favorites –and plenty of purists have come to appreciate the crossbow wielding ass-kicker. Daryl’s role serves as a great dynamic that they have built for fans when the events makes viewers feel disassociated with Rick. While the former sheriff is certainly still the main protagonist, many of us already know how much more broken he’ll get as the story gets along. And if he’s been hard to relate to, that trend is about to get even worse. Providing viewers with someone to empathize with is something that Daryl does well.
In other Walking Dead discussions, if you’ve been reading the comics you’ll know that Tyreese is going to be playing quite a major part in the story. And while his involvement in last season’s big events has been kept to a minimum, we expect this to change when season 4 rolls in. They’ve downplayed the stories that Ty and his group went through –and while this can be explored in either flashbacks or just plain or expositional dialogues, we’re hoping that the man finally gets to show how well he performs when given a leadership capacity.
Infectonator Hotchase: Time to Run and Munch on Humans
Toge’s been handling the zombie game genre for quite some time now, and it was really not surprising when they ported the original Infectonator game from browser based Flash to the Apple iOS. The announcement of a new Infectonator-brand mini-game however, is a totally welcome surprise.
Hotchase is not a running game, it’s an eat-all-humans-then-grow-faster-and-eat-even-more-humans kind of game, and we love it. The graphics have been improved a bit in terms of animations, but the sprites have remained the same: done in classic retro-pixel style. We love that the developers didn’t change the style. It worked great for the original Infectonator, and it looks just as good now.
Is it worth playing? Most certainly so! The game is already out and it is completely free of charge. Sure, there are a few IAPs in the system, but you can pretty much earn all the upgrades and unlock the different zombie types without having to spend a single cent; you can earn enough to unlock the final zombie type in a single sitting, as long as you upgrade the right set of stats early on. And unlocking the extra zombies is rewarding by itself, as there are special zombie types like the Nyancat zombie, Godzilla zombie, and even an Alien zombie.
Airsoft, Mazes, Zombies! Haunted Hollywood Sports is Gonna Be Exciting
The folks from GSO (Giant Sportz Outlet) are back with their annual Haunted Hollywood Sports event this coming October. For those who have no clue what we’re talking about, HHS is a unique Halloween-time event that merges the worlds of airsoft, zombie apocalypses, and haunted houses into one terrifying experience.
Yep, we said airsoft. HHS’ Zombie Killhouse attraction has been a major hit with zed-hunting fans since it first came out a couple of years ago. With the use of paintball and laser-tag technology, the organizers of the event have been able to provide visitors with the unique experience of fighting off zombies. It’s a very engaging experience which separates this from many other zombie themed events –shooting zombies is basically a wish fulfillment fantasy on its own right.
That said, there are plenty of other attractions to be enjoyed. Aside from the Killhouses (yep, there are several types), visitors can also try out themed mazes, rock climbing, “scare zones”, and there’s even a club for the grownups to enjoy.
For those of you interested in participating, here's the location:
It’s a great way to spend the Halloween with friends and family –and yes, you can bring the kids. With plenty of activities in HHS that caters to a variety of audiences, the only visitors need is to get ready for a really good scare, and an even grander time (sadly, folks with medical conditions will have to pass up on this one).
