Atari Takes the Spotlight on a Kickstarter Documentary
World 1-1 is the first part of an all new documentary series that focuses on the history of video games. The project is nothing short of ambitious, but for a couple of gaming enthusiasts with plenty of video production experience, the sky is the limit. They've already finished the script, and they even managed to tie down some pretty big names associated with what is essentially the genesis (the religious reference, not the SEGA system) of the modern day video game industry. With just a little over 20 days to go on Kickstarter, this project could use every bit of support it can get -catch the KS intro vid after the jump.
Focusing on Atari may seem like a pretty brave choice, considering that companies like Nintendo, SEGA, Sony, etc are much bigger players in the current industry. But when you're tracing the roots all things 8-bit (and earlier), all roads run back to Atari's innovations in the world of interactive digital electronics.
We'd love to see this documentary get filmed -after all, if this first one does great, they will most likely continue to create the rest of the series. The project is being run by Jeannette Garcia and Daryl Rodriguez of Concept Lounge Creations (they're independent filmmakers from Miami), and their target goal is a humble $15,000 USD (seriously folks, this is an extremely modest budget for a full length documentary that will include on-location shots). With all the careful planning they set up -as per their Kickstarter, its easy to see that these guys know what they're doing (they even got the support of Rick Medina of Arcade Odyssey). The only challenge left now is for gaming fans to show their support.
